Day 46 – Singapore Zoo

Posted in Singapore on February 19, 2011 by jpomio

Our trip to Singapore would not be complete without visiting the “World’s Best Rainforest Zoo”. Today we headed north of the city to the Upper Seletar Reservoir, home to the beautiful Singapore Zoo. During our bus ride to the zoo, we noticed monkeys in the wild which was very cool. After a delightful day at the zoo (very educational), we migrated back to the city where we devoured a delicious Taiwanese dinner in Singapore’s City Hall region.

Day 45 – Singapore

We began the day by exploring Kampong Galm, a Muslim area of Singapore. The Malabar Mosque and the Sultan Mosque are definitely the crown jewels of Kampong Galm. After strolling by numerous stores with GORGEOUS fabrics, we hopped on the subway and headed for Singapore’s main drag, Orchard Road (a street lined with very expensive shops and fancy hotels). Later we sampled some fine Asian cuisine by enjoying dinner in Chinatown. We spent the evening on Singapore’s beautiful Harbor Front where we observed a specular laser/water show by Marina Bay Sands.

Day 44 – Exploring Singapore

We began our day be walking around Little India, a vibrant and active area of Singapore located close to our lodgings. We then took the train to Chinatown, another area of Singapore rich with migrant history. Singapore is a fascinating multicultural city state which personifies a “can do” attitude. As we progressed towards the newer areas of the city (Clarke Quay and Marina Bay), I was extremely impressed with Singapore’s architectural ingenuity and cleanliness. It was awesome admiring Singapore’s many progressive landmarks today (Singapore Flyer, Marina Bay Sands, Fountain of Wealth, War Memorial Park, etc.). We ended the day by enjoying a delicious dinner served on banana leaves in Little India.

(In my opinion, this is the coolest building in Singapore – Marina Bay Sands)

Day 43 – Goodbye Australia, hello Singapore!

Today we said goodbye to Sydney and headed for Singapore. Our Qantas flight was a pleasant seven and a half hour journey. As usual Qantas provided GREAT service, food, and in-flight entertainment. Pretty much the whole day today was devoted to transit so I don’t have any super cool stories or pictures to share. Here’s a picture of the train we took to our hostel upon arriving in Singapore. More to come tomorrow…
