Day 68 – Sukhothai Historical Park

This morning we got up super early and headed to the Sukhothai Historical Park, the capital of the first Thai kingdom. We rented a couple of bikes as a means of getting around the park to see the various historic ruins (dating back to the 13th century). Sukhothai Historical Park is a World Heritage Site and it is simply magnificent. After enjoying the morning in Old Sukhothai, we headed back to Phitsanulok to catch an afternoon train to Chiang Mai. As usual we waited forever since our train was delayed by two hours. Note to future Thailand travelers, pack some patience because you’ll need it when taking public transportation around here.

  1. Aunt Jan Says:

These are rather massive structures for the time period, but they don’t look as stable as other dated structures, such as Notre Dame in Paris.
