Day 25 – New Plymouth / Waitomo

While exploring New Plymouth on foot, we came across one of the coolest kinetic sculptures located on the city’s costal walkway (Wind Wand by Len Lye). Since it was a windy day, the weather conditions were perfect to view this piece of art in its full glory. Unfortunately it was also quite cloudy so we were unable to see Mount Taranaki (the largest volcano in New Zealand). After strolling through the city center, visiting the Puke Ariki Museum, admiring Len Lye’s other sculptures in the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery, enjoying a delicious lunch at the Petit Paris French Bakery, and taking a walk in the Pukekura Park, we drove north to Waitomo where we will be spending the night before heading back to Auckland tomorrow.
