Day 34 – Hello Cairns!
After having a fabulous time in Melbourne, we migrated to Cairns today. Our three hour Qantas flight was delightful as always, we even got served ice cream as a snack after the main course. Upon arriving in Cairns, we began exploring this smaller city by foot. Cairns is a launching point for tours to the Great Barrier Reef (one of the primary reason we’re in Australia). As some of you may have read in the news, Cyclone Yasi passed through Cairns a little less than a week ago. I am happy to report that the city is in perfect condition. I only saw one tree down and that’s about it. On a completely different topic, today we noticed a guy with a vintage Cubs t-shirt at the Cairns airport. Naturally we befriended this fellow Chicagoan. It’s a small world… GO CUBS!

I’m a sucker for a good water scene. I remember falling in love with Niagara Falls when I was in Canada and I’m a proud lakefront bum in Chicago, but this right here looks even more beautiful. I like the shot of the beach with those jellyfish poles.
